Study of organic waste materials for electrochemical storage systems

WP 3

ORANGEES

Responsible: RSE SpA
Duration: Month 1 – Month 36

With a view to achieving sustainability and embracing the concepts of the circular economy, WP3 will study, synthesize, and validate a series of compounds derived from processing waste (e.g., dairy and silk industry waste) or from refuse (e.g., biomass, plastic bottles) for the preparation of the various components that make up an SAE (e.g., active materials, carbons, etc.). This WP includes numerous activities aimed at the preparation of new highly sustainable, water-based binders to address the sustainability aspects related to the preparation of electrodes which currently use toxic solvents and fluorinated polymers, which are dangerous in the event of a fire.

The project’s strength is the complete independence of its experimental lines of activity, confirming the exploratory nature of many of the proposed areas of study, which range from the synthesis to the development of electrode formulations based on little-known compounds. Obviously, this does not preclude a fluid exchange of information and the possibility of comparison between partners, with the aim of suggesting potential interpretations of the observed phenomena.
