CNR and ENEA are joining forces to develop a new generation of more eco-friendly and high-performance batteries. The Orangees project, funded with €4 million, focuses on the use of sustainable materials such as waste from the agri-food industry to produce innovative batteries.
The goal is to reduce the environmental impact of traditional batteries, which often contain critical metals like lithium and cobalt. The new batteries, however, will be made with materials such as casein, whey, keratin, prickly pear cactus, and cellulose, obtained from manufacturing waste.
