The island of Salina hosted an event of great scientific and technological importance: from 1 to 3 October 2024, a workshop dedicated to “System Research and Comparison of Research Activities in Storage Technologies”.
This event provided an important opportunity for discussion and collaboration among industry experts, who discussed the latest developments in energy storage technologies, with a particular focus on sodium-ion batteries, artificial intelligence, and advances in electrochemical storage. The workshop presented sodium-ion batteries, one of the emerging technologies in the field of energy storage. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the technical characteristics of these batteries, their advantages, and the remaining challenges. Furthermore, a risk analysis was presented regarding the use of sodium-ion batteries, which is essential for understanding their reliability and safety in various application contexts. Part of the discussion focused on advanced modeling techniques and the use of artificial intelligence in energy storage technologies. Case studies and innovative methodologies leveraging AI to optimize battery performance and improve data management were presented. Life cycle assessment (LCA) procedures for sodium-ion batteries, essential for assessing the environmental impact and sustainability of these technologies, were also illustrated. The progress of research into electrochemical storage conducted by the various partners was presented. ENEA, CNR, RSE, and DIITET shared their project results and future prospects. The new website was unveiled, which will serve as a platform for sharing knowledge and providing continuous updates on the latest developments in storage technologies.
